Sue Dyson is an internationally recognised veterinarian, researcher, and educator with over four decades of experience in equine lameness and performance issues. After qualifying from the University of Cambridge and gaining international clinical experience, Sue returned to Great Britain to the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket. Sue ran a clinical referral service for lameness and poor performance, attracting clients from all over the United Kingdom, Ireland and continental Europe for 37 years. Since 2019, she has worked as an independent consultant, combining veterinary expertise with practical horsemanship to enhance equine performance and welfare.

Sue’s key interests are improving the diagnosis of lameness and poor performance and maximising the opportunity for horses to fulfil their athletic potential at whatever level, taking a holistic approach to the horse, rider and tack combination, and improving approaches to diagnosis and management. She has been involved not only in providing clinical services, but also clinically relevant research and education. Sue has published over 430 peer-reviewed papers and authored several key veterinary textbooks. She is a sought-after international speaker and educator across a broad audience from veterinarians to riders. A former President of the British Equine Veterinary Association, she has received numerous international awards, including induction into the University of Kentucky Equine Research Hall of Fame. She is also an accomplished rider (has produced horses from novice to top national level in both eventing and show jumping) and holds the British Horse Society Instructors and Stable Managers Certificates.


Sue Dyson on rahvusvaheliselt tunnustatud loomaarst, teadlane ja koolitaja, kellel on üle neljakümne aasta kogemust hobuste longete ja vähenenud sooritusvõimega seotud probleemide valdkonnas. Pärast Cambridge’i Ülikooli lõpetamist ja rahvusvahelise kliinilise kogemuse omandamist naasis ta Suurbritanniasse ning asus tööle Newmarketis asuvasse Animal Health Trusti. Seal juhtis ta 37 aastat longete ja vähenenud sooritusvõimele keskendunud referentskliinikut, kuhu pöördusid kliendid üle kogu Ühendkuningriigi, Iirimaa ja mandri-Euroopa.

Alates 2019. aastast töötab Sue sõltumatu konsultandina, ühendades veterinaarsed teadmised praktiliste hobuse käsitlemise ja ratsutamisoskusega, et parandada hobuste sooritusvõimet ja heaolu. Tema peamised huvid on longete ja vähenenud sooritusvõime täpsem diagnoosimine, hobuste sportliku potentsiaali maksimaalne rakendamine igal tasemel ning terviklik lähenemine hobuse, ratsaniku ja varustuse koosmõjule. Lisaks kliinilisele tööle on ta aktiivne ka teadustöös ja hariduses. Sue on avaldanud üle 430 eelretsenseeritud teadusartikli ning kirjutanud mitu olulist veterinaarset käsiraamatut.

Ta on rahvusvaheliselt hinnatud koolitaja ja lektor, kelle publik ulatub veterinaararstidest kuni ratsanike ja treeneriteni. Sue on olnud British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA - Briti hobusearstide ühing) president ja pälvinud mitmeid rahvusvahelisi auhindu. Ta on ka kogenud ratsutaja, kes on treeninud hobuseid algtasemest kuni kõrgeima rahvusliku tasemeni kolmevõistluses ja takistussõidus, ning omab British Horse Society instruktorite ja tallijuhtide sertifikaate.

Development and use of Ridden Horse Pain Ethogram In this session, Dr. Sue Dyson will introduce the Ridden Horse Pain Ethogram (RHPE) – a scientifically developed tool to help identify signs of pain in ridden horses. The presentation will cover how the checklist was created, validated, and how it can be applied in practice to improve horse welfare and rider awareness. 2.
